Roadside Turbulence

Group exhibition/ Sebastiano Arpaia, Elliot Chambers & Andrew Straub

'Roadside Turbulence' is the first group show to pair the works of Sebastiano Arpaia, Elliot Chambers and Andrew Straub. Each artist has taken their own unique approach to photography and painting. Having all graduated from the School of Visual Arts, where they initially met, they took post graduation as an opportunity to independently develop their style.

The show is based on the concept that everyday objects and life are often overlooked and quickly passed by. 'Roadside Turbulence' is an attempt for these three artists to interpret the mundane views of everyday life, in hopes to romanticize, develop a narrative and depth within the select pieces shown.

Arpaia focuses on the fine details he notices in post production, for example playing with the idea of how the qualities of a fire can presents itself harmoniously with nature despite the fire's endangering qualities. For Chambers, it was the sprinkler system on the plains of Montana that he saw every morning when working on a cattle farm in which he drew inspiration from. Straub's photography focuses on how the normality of life can be misinterpreted to tell a new story; a fountain and broken fence turns into an abandoned car crash.

It is only when the works from Arpaia, Chambers and Straub are shown accompanying one another that we truly learn about the individual artists inspiration behind each piece and what catches their attention when traveling.
